: 2006 - 2007 Junior Qualification :
To enter an event at the 2006 Speedo Junior National Diving Championships, Dive Calgary divers must have qualified on the basis of one or more of the following criteria:
  • Any diver who placed in the final session and who met the point standard of any Senior National Championships from the previous season is exempt from qualification for that event; or
  • Any diver who has twice met the current season's age group point standard for that event at the designated competitions below held during the twelve months. At least one of the qualifying scores on each event must be obtained from events in Group 1.
  • Age Group "A" and "B" divers must meet the qualification standards using their full list in an age group event (Options-only lists and open event qualifications are no longer considered for qualifying).

Dive CalgaryTeam Brings Home Polar Bear Trophy - Athletes competing this past weekend in Winnipeg came home with more than personal bests, some ribbons and medals - they won the competition! Congratulations to Jess, Cody, Brandon, Hailey, Devon, Elizabeth, Caitlin, Derek, Lauren, Chad, Alex and Savannah! Results can be viewed on our results page.

Blythe Hartley of Calgary earns three gold medals at World Championship Trials/Canadian Winter Sr. Nationals this weekend and her 22nd career national title. Blythe placed 1st in both 1m and 3m springboard events as well as 1st with partner Emilie Heymans in the 3m synchro event.

More great performances by the Calgary team included Mandy Moran placing 2nd on the 1m and 5th on the 3m, Jessalyn Almond placing 12th on the Women's 1m springboard and 18th on the 3m, and Hailey Casper, competing in her first Sr. National competition, made the 3m final and placed 12th. She finished up 15th on the 1m.

Cody Kolodziejzyk had a strong performance on the 1m springboard and finished the final in 11th place, 16th on 3m. Brandon Makinson, also competing at his first Sr. National competition, finished in 14th on the Men's 1m. Congratulations to all the divers. For complete results, click here.

AB Provincial Team - Elizabeth and Cody were recently named to the 2007 AB Provincial Team. They join Kim, Hailey and Jessalyn who qualified for the team at the AB Winter Provincials in 2006. These athletes will be attending a training camp in Veracruz, MX in late February. Congratulations to all of our Provincial Team athletes!

WCSG Training Camp Trials & Sr. National Qualifier - Congratulations to Hailey, Cody, Jess , Brandon, Devon and Coach Igor on qualifying for the Western Canadian Summer Games Training Camp, which will be held in conjunction with the Provincial Team training camp in Veracruz.

Blythe Hartley - AFC's Athlete of the Year - The awards program recognizes outstanding achievements in Canadian aquatic sports for the 2006 calendar year.

"The Aquatic Federation of Canada is proud to recognize the achievements of our athletes, coaches and volunteers who have made such an important contribution to the advancement of aquatic sports this past year", stated Linda Cuthbert, President, AFC. "In each of their respective fields, our winners have ensured Canada's success on the international level."

Among the winners, Diving's Blythe Hartley of North Vancouver was named Female Athlete of the Year. A double gold medallist at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and bronze medallist at the FINA World Cup, Blythe had a successful 2006 season which earned her third AFC award.

Congratulations to Igor Paskov - Igor was recently named as a Canadian Junior National Team Coach.

BLYTHE HARTLEY BRONZE MEDALIST AT THE 2006 FINA World Cup - Changshu, China - July 19-23 - Congratulations to Blythe for her bronze medal performance in the Women's 1 Meter! KATHERINE GIRGULIS WINS JUNIOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP - 2006 Speedo Canadian Jr. Nationals - July 13-16 - Dive Calgary posted a Fourth place Team finish overall in Edmonton at the 2006 Jr. Nationals. En route, there were some remarkable individual performances including Katie Girgulis' 1st, 4th and 6th place finishes; Hailey Casper's 4th and 5th place in the B 1meter and 3 meter; Elizabeth Girgulis' 6th place finish in the C Platform; Cody Kolodziejzyk's great consistency, placing 7th in the A 1 meter, 3 meter and platform; Jessalyn Almond's 7th on 1 meter and 8th on platform; and Alex Platt and Chad Smith (in their first Jr. Nationals) placed 6th and 7th respectively in the D 1 meter springboard event.

Dive Calgary had 13 national qualifiers competing at the Junior Nationals and 10 of these divers were finalists in a total of 19 events!

Congratulations to all of the divers! Finalists included:

Dive Calgary's Fall Registration and 2006-2007 Handbook - Registration for the 2006-2007 diving season will be held on Thursday, September 14th, 2006 in the Riverview Room, Talisman Centre at 6 p.m. Registration forms will be emailed out prior to the registration.
